Snoopy Travels Kansas Colorado Utah

Moab, Utah Trip...November, 1999
[Kansas, Colorado & Utah]

The Maze area is about 20 miles north of Hanksville, then east about 40 plus miles to Hans Flat...

Quote from the National Parks "Only adventurous and experienced travelers will want to visit this rugged land west of the Green and Colorado Rivers.  Vehicle access wasn't even possible until 1957, when mineral-exploration [Uranium mining, no this area does not glow at night, but I think that it should] roads first entered what later become the Cayonlands National Park.  Today, you'll need a high-clearance 4WD vehicle, a horse, or your own two feet to get around.  The many-fingered canyons of the Maze gave to district its name"...

At the end of this day you will find Snoopy's view if the National Parks comments are valid...

When ones first enters the Maze area, the land is flat and sandy...after a traveling a few miles east towards Hans Flat, sandstone cliffs and very large boulders start to appear...Travel this area is very easy a two wheel drive vehicle can easily make the trip, be prepared for a VERY DUSTY ride...

"Life" is very harsh for anything living in the part of the country...the weather worn tree is about 700 years old.  I does look a bit on the "old side", however given its age; it looks much younger than I do at age 57!!!

A cabin near French Spring and on the way to Flint Trail...my guess is that this was a miner cabin during the Uranium mining peak of the 1950's.

[The area is now range land leased by the area ranchers, some people feel that these areas should be closed to grazing.  Personally I am on the "side" of the ranchers, they have been using this land for many generations.  If there is hard done, I can not find it.  It seems strange to me that the same people that want to close this areas off to ranchers, and to visitor like Snoopy.  Are very happy to build homes, highways, shopping centers, etc. for their use and benefit.  However when it comes to others that use our lands, they are very closed minded.  Double standard in my view]...

Not sure what this structure is, however when I ask Clark about snakes.  He seem lose interest in checking it out...
